Please welcome the Spring 2017 Guest Soloist

USMC Staff Sergeant Hiram Diaz

Euphonium player Staff Sergeant Hiram Diaz joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in January 2012. Staff Sgt. Diaz began his musical instruction at age 12. He graduated in 2003 from the New World School of the Arts in Miami and continued his education at the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music (CCM) where he earned a bachelor’s degree in music performance in 2007. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree from the University of North Texas in Denton, where he studies with euphonium professor Brian Bowman. His instructors also included Timothy Northcut of CCM and Jay Bertolet, former principal tuba with the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra.

Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” Staff Sgt. Diaz was a member of the U.S. Army Maneuver Center of Excellence Band (283d Army Band) in Ft. Benning, Ga.

In 2016,he performed Tom Davoren’s Ascension with trumpet/cornet player Gunnery Sgt. Amy McCabe as featured soloists on the national concert tour.

Dear North Cascades Concert Band Supporters & Friends!

It is with great excitement that I announce spectacular news regarding our spring “Sousa” concert.  The North Cascades Concert Band will again be featuring a member of the “President’s Own” Washington DC, Marine Corps Concert Band! This spring we will host Euphonium Soloist Hiram Diaz!

Hiram has been a featured soloist not only with the Marine Corps Band, but also with concert groups throughout our nation.  His talent and virtuosity on the euphonium are unsurpassed and will be sure to delight our audiences this spring.

Our spring concert theme is “Sousa On Tour!” In addition to soloist Hiram Diaz, we will be featuring our own euphonium section as well as jazz favorites, show tunes, patriotic music and marches galore! Music from Alfred Reed, Strauss, Gershwin, Gould, Sousa and more, it’s a program that’s sure to astound and entertain all who attend.

Remember, that admission to any concert is free! However, because Hiram is a part of the “Presidents Own,” and is our guest, we are responsible for all expenses associated with his visit, such as airfare, stay, and meals.

We hope that you will be willing to help support this lifetime opportunity for our band and our concert communities, by joining in our mission to bring these fine musicians to our area.  Many of you have already graciously donated to the North Cascades Concert Band and for that we thank you. We hope all will be willing to help support this spring concert effort with a tax deductible donation that will help us keep live music strong in the Northwest!

Thank you for your continued support.

Musically yours,

Rob Pattermann
