Our Director
Peter Blau Ormsby, the current director of the North Cascades Concert Band. Peter’s parents have been members of the North Cascades Concert Band since the bands original formation. His parents influence as well as his participation Burlington Edison High School instrumental music program under the Direction of Jerry Schrader made a lasting impression on him and ultimately shaped his desire to pursue a career in music education.
Peter received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from the University of Puget Sound where he studied trombone with Steve Fissel, Trombone player in the Seattle Symphony. He also performed in the UPS Wind Ensemble under the Direction of Bob Musser-founder of the Tacoma Concert Band, the UPS Jazz Band, and the Adelphian Concert Choir. He further earned a Master of Music degree from the University of Washington where he studied trombone with Don Immel and performed in the University of Washington Wind Ensemble under the direction of Tim Salzman.
During his career as a music educator Peter has taught in several Washington State school districts including Tacoma, Franklin Pierce-Parkland, Concrete High School, Lummi Nation, and is currently teaching at the Nooksack Valley School District in Whatcom County. In addition, Peter directs the Edison Lutheran Church choir and performs in several small ensembles playing bass and trombone with his brother Eddy Blau.
Peter became Assistant Conductor of the North Cascades Concert Band in 2022 and was promoted to Music Director / Conductor in 2023 upon the retirement of Rob Patterman, who is now Director Emeritus.
